Headed back to Wilkesboro

I’m headed back to Wilkesboro Elementary on April 3, 2019 to deliver copies of Magic Pencil to Mrs. Miller’s pre-K classroom. They are the inspiration for Magic Pencil and all 16 students (plus Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Shore) are the characters for the story. Can’t wait to see their smiling faces!

Wilkesboro Elementary School – Dew Bear Imagination Presentations!

I had a great couple of days doing Dew Bear’s Imagination Presentation for the Wilkesboro Elementary School. I want to thank Mrs. St. John, the librarian, for scheduling back-to-back presentations for the awesome kindergarten, first, second, and third grade students on Tuesday, February 5th. On Wednesday, I had the honor of presenting to Mrs. Miller’s pre-k classroom which included Mattie Grace McKinney who is the inspiration for Mattie Grace, the green-eyed, purple flower-power spider of Memory Forest (who makes her debut appearance in Book 7 – Trick-or-Treatment). And, as a bonus, I got to talk about the Fireflies of Inspiration to the avid readers’ group – these 32 very special students completed the summer reading program, so Dew Bear gave each one their very own copy of Book #7.

Book 7 – Trick-or-Treatment

Dew Bear is ready for Halloween … are you? Dew and friends know how to do Halloween right.  So grab a mug of hot apple cider, snuggle up under a warm blanket, and turn the lights on bright (to ward away the goblins) — then let Dew lead you down the ghoulishly haunted trail. Come bob for apples at the spooktacular Hallow-scream party.  And, if you dare, sit around the campfire and hear Pa Bear’s ghost story. But if you eat too much candy, you may end up like Dew. I won’t spoil the story and tell you what happens … you’ll have to find out for yourself. So purchase your copy of Book 7 – Trick-or-Treatment by e-mailing me at [email protected] (for a signed copy) — or get it from Amazon or Barnes & Noble (just type in “A Day in the Life of Dew” in your search bar) and let the fun begin!

Thanks for being a friend of Dew … and happy reading!

Dew Bear had to do away with his shopping cart … e-mail me if you want books!!!

Dew Bear had to give up his shopping cart … GoDaddy wanted too much money to host the site. So…if you want to order books, they are available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble websites (or just type A Day in the Life of Dew in the search field of those sites), or you can drop me an e-mail ([email protected]). Books ordered directly through me are typically cheaper and will be signed copies. If you live in North Carolina, I have to charge you sales tax. And if you live somewhere I can’t just drop it off in person, then you’ll have to pay postage too!

The cost for book #1 (because it’s a few less pages) is $6.99 for paperbacks and $13.99 for hardbacks. All other books are $7.99 for paperback and $14.99 for hardbacks. (Don’t ask my why they can’t just make it an even amt – it’s some marketing ploy that I find ridiculous!).

There are 2 ways to make payment:  I can take credit card purchases through Square (I’ll send you a link), or you can mail me a check (I’ll e-mail you an invoice).

Again, if interested in buying one or more books, just e-mail me ([email protected]) with your contact info, which books you want, how many, and how you want to pay for them (ck or cc). I’m working on a submission form, but this website is not user-friendly for that). I may be changing websites after the first of the year, so please “bear” with me.

(PS-you may think I make good money on selling books, but the truth is that my share is between 75 cents and 1 dollar per book – depending on the printing and freight costs. It takes over 300 hours of my time to complete each book – not to mention all the other costs involved such as copyright fees, editors, website hosting, etc. I don’t expect to get rich anytime soon, but I’ll be happy knowing Dew Bear is getting into the hands of children!).

Thanks for your interest in Dew Bear – and be sure to check out the tabs at the top to see the first 3 chapters of each book. We are excited about sharing Dew’s adventures with you!

PS…if you want to contact me, please do so by e-mail ([email protected]). This site gets hundreds of spam comments a day. It is impossible for me to discern good comments from spam, so I have to mass delete all comments posted. Thanks for understanding.

Book 4 – A Penny for Your Thoughts

I’ve finished A Day in the Life of Dew – Book 4 – A Penny for Your Thoughts. It is dedicated to my father-in-law, Pete Clayton. He is a man of great wisdom – and he truly values the penny. I hope you will join Dew, Sharky, and the penny on a journey through Memory Forest to Penguin Palace. Find out where the penny came from and what thought it bought. And when you get to the end, it just may not be the end after all. You’ll have to read it to see what I mean!

You can read the first 3 chapters in pdf format by clicking on the tab at the top for Book 4. Then, if you want to continue the adventure, you’ll have to buy the book!

The official publication date is tomorrow – Sunday, January 29, 2017. It is already listed on Amazon and Barnes & Noble (on-line), but if you want a signed copy, then you need to order from this website. Unfortunately, as of today (January 28, 2017), my copies of the book are still at the printer. It may be a week or two before I can fulfill any orders. I do appreciate your patience. (I’ll update this post when books are in hand!)

So, now it’s on to Book 5 – Sharky’s Special Day. I hope to have that one ready by June 4th – Sharky’s birthday (a/k/a my daughter, Denise Caron).

Update on Dew Bear

I haven’t posted in a year – amazing how that much time got away from me. But, I’ve been busy with Dew Bear (he’s very demanding!). My last post was December 8, 2016 – my 55th birthday and Dew’s first “birth” day. Dew’s been published for a year (as of tomorrow) – and he’s grown up quite nicely (not that I’ve seen much in sales since I really don’t have time to market/advertise). By growing, I mean he’s currently completing his 4th adventure. Of course, his first one was Book 1 – Dew has a M.O.M. (Mountain of Memories) (Dec 2015). Since then, he’s finished Book 2 – Dragon Quest (June 2016), Book 3 – Saving Tessa (Aug 2016), and is now almost done with Book 4 – A Penny for Your Thoughts (coming Jan 2017). He’s been a very busy Bear!

If you’d like to see glimpses of his adventures, simply click on each BOOK tab on the home page. There will be a link to view the first 3 chapters as a pdf document. Of course, if you like what you see and want to read more of his adventure, simply go to the shopping cart and place your order…or you can find them on Amazon or Barnes & Noble (on-line only – Dew doesn’t have time to sit around on book shelves yet!). If you have difficulty, feel free to call or e-mail me – I’ll be happy to hook you up with Dew!

Tomorrow is my 56th birthday and Dew’s 2nd – it’s been a great year (and a great life for me). I’m hoping Dew Bear will help me retire one day, but even if I never get rich from book sales (I’m lucky if make a dollar a book in profit after printing costs), my life has been en”rich”ed by Dew’s presence and all the friends I’ve made because of him. Children are the cutest things!

Happy Birthday Dew Bear – may all your dreams of adventure come true (they will if I can keep on writing them).

Dew Bear’s Birthday!!!

HappyBirthday-DewBear-jpeg

I’m posting this at midnight on December 8th, so it is now officially Dew Bear’s Birthday, so-to-speak! It is his official publication date – and my 55th Birthday. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEW!

Dew Bear was born
on a crisp autumn morn
when the dew on the grass was real thick.
Ma and Pa bear chose his name with great care,
’cause they knew it was a name that would stick.

As Dew Bear grew, everyone knew,
they could count on him through and through,
for Dew Bear could do
WHATEVER he put his mind too!

My first order of books arrived last Friday – and I’m willing to share…so if you want a copy of Dew’s first book – Dew has a M.O.M. (Mountain of Memories), just click on the shopping tab above or drop me an e-mail ([email protected]) if you have a special request!

Thanks to everyone who has supported me through the last couple years – and please “bear” with me as I write and illustrate the next 15 or more stories.

Great News – Dew Bear books are in route!!!

Just got notification from UPS that Dew’s first book order (paperbacks) will be delivered this Friday, December 4th!!! I was worried he might not make his December 8th debut. So, the shopping cart will be added this weekend so you can all start ordering!!! Thanks for your support of Dew Bear.

The hardback version is in proofing now and won’t be available for purchase till later in the month – and may not make it in time for Christmas! I’m also working on the e-book version – but that takes up to 15 days for processing through Ingram Spark. I’ll keep you posted on those items later.

A Day in the Life of Dew – Book #1 – Dew has a M.O.M. (Mountain of Memories) – Finished!!!

At long last, Dew Bear’s first book – Dew has a M.O.M. (Mountain of Memories) is finished! The first 500 copies are being printed by Ingram Spark and should be in my hands by December 8th – which is the official launch date for the book.

A shopping cart link will be added to this website a few days before the 8th – and I will post on Facebook when it is available. The shopping cart will allow payment via credit card and PayPal. If you prefer to pay by check, you can contact me by e-mail ([email protected]) or phone (919-382-0068) for a quote.

Due to increased printing/shipping costs for printing on 70 lb paper, the price of the paperback book will be $6.99 per copy. If you live in North Carolina, a sales tax of 7.5% will be added to your order. If you live outside NC, you’ll be responsible for paying the “use” tax for your state (if applicable). Shipping charges will be calculated at check-out based on your shipping preference and destination (parcel post USPS mail should run approximately $2.72 for the first book – and will increase for additional books based on total weight).

I am working on making hardback and e-books available, but that won’t happen for a few weeks.

I will also post links to Ingram Spark and Create Space if you prefer to order direct from them, but…the pricing on those sites is more due to the “cuts” they get for marketing the books. I am trying to work out a Family and Friends Coupon that will bring the price down for direct orders — but you have to “bear” with me while I work out the kinks.

I’d just like to say THANKS to everyone who has supported my vision for Dew Bear and have encouraged me to publish. I hope you all enjoy the first book and will look forward to future adventures … because in Memory Forest, Everyday is an Adventure!

Dew Bear is in Proofing Stage…

It’s been almost a year and a half since Dew Bear was created. My goal of publishing in October 2014 flew by…a year later, Book 1 – Dew has a M.O.M. (Mountain of Memories) has finally been printed as a proof through CreateSpace. Other than some minor difficulties with the spine content, it looks really good (or at least I think so). I’ve uploaded the file to Ingram Press/Lighting Sparks to get a copy of their proof – they are supposed to cost less for printing, and I can order in volume for direct distribution (unlike CreateSpace).

I’ve uploaded the first three chapters of the finished book as a pdf to this website (#1-Dew-Mom-11-01-15-WebExcerpt). Feel free to check it out.  If you save it to your computer and then view it in Adobe Reader, you can change the view to “facing pages” so it looks more like the book (ie – the map is spread over two pages).

If you like it…let me know. I hope to have it available for purchase by December 8th (my 55th birthday).

Happy Reading!!!
